What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is a minimally invasive therapy technique using tiny, sterilized needles to stimulate the skin's natural healing ability. When skin is punctured, it signals the body to regenerate tissue in the area where the needle penetrates, similar to the healing response seen when the body repairs itself after a cut or scrape. The micro-punctures caused by the needles prompt the skin to produce increased amounts of elastin and collagen, which make your skin bounce back to a firmer, more youthful shape. Microneedling is used to reduce the appearance of pores, stretch marks, or wrinkles, and it is often combined with other treatments, like serums or PRP (platelet-rich plasma). Make an appointment with Dr. Alisha Detorres at Coastal Health to learn more about the benefits of microneedling and how we can customize the procedure for your needs.
"I have had several services done by Dr. Detorres including a peel and micro needling and I got excellent results. She is very knowledgable, thorough and contentious. I really like that she also is a naturopath, so I know I am not only getting her skills as an esthetician, but also as a doctor. I would highly recommend her for any service she offers."- W.L. / Yelp / Jan 02, 2020

What Can I Expect from Microneedling Treatments?
Microneedling is completed in a comfortable treatment room. Discomfort is typically mild, but if you wish, we can apply a local anesthesia serum so you don't feel a thing. Based on your consultation with Dr. Detorres, you may also receive a platelet-rich plasma (PRP) serum or a topical vitamin infusion to restore nutrients to your skin. A moisturizer will be massaged in along with sun protection since the treated skin will be more sensitive following the procedure. Typically, patients need 3 – 6 sessions to get their best results. However, the number of sessions you'll need will vary based on your skin's condition and your particular goals. Microneedling may be performed safely every 4 – 6 weeks. In your consultation, Dr. Detorres will help you estimate the number of sessions necessary to achieve your particular goals. It can take 1 – 2 months to see your full results from your microneedling procedure, but once you do, you'll find that your skin is smoother, clearer, and more radiant.
